The Masajid Collaborative of Westchester (MCW) condemns the senseless and ruthless murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The Quran and our Islamic faith teach us how sacred all human life is. Sadly, George Floyd’s untimely death is the latest in a long list that includes Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Tamer Rice, Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Freddie Gray, Marcus Golden, Jamar Clark, Philando Castile to name just a few. While recognizing that there are many honorable individual police officers, we stand firm with our fellow Americans in the call for justice and greater accountability not just in Minneapolis but all across the United States regarding police brutality and violence.
The MCW supports the rights of all Americans to stand up against this injustice and oppression, but to do so peacefully, so as to not harm others or their property.
We have faith in God and that He will provide justice against all of those who oppress. The MCW offers its condolences to George Floyd’s family and friends, and stands firm with our African American brothers and sisters. The Quran, states that:
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.” Al-Quran 4:135
